Looking Back

I suppose I  am a born novelist, for the things that I imagine are more vital and vivid to me than the things I remember.--Ellen Glasgow
2010 was an interesting year for me; it showed me what exactly it is that I needed to do and what path I needed to take...

Ever since I was young, my elementary teachers (my 5th grade teacher most of all) would always tell my parents that they should encourage me to continue on writing. I will admit, I did write interesting stories, but that's because I really didn't think my life was as exciting as the ones my classmates had.

Well, or so I thought.

Yeah, I was rather odd--I still am, but when I was young I was an introvert, and I preferred a good book  that would take me to far off lands or sit down and write on my journals and watch my stories unfold...

Of course I come from an artistic background so everyone was into music and arts, which till this days most of my relatives are, but not me... In fact, I wanted to be noncreative. I really don't know why that was... but in the end, after taking the long path and not enjoying it, I came back to where I was once.

I came back to my writing.

So in a way, my New Year's Resolution might consist of many goals, but the one thing I want to focus on the most is my writing.

Sure I'm not introvert anymore. In fact, I'm not who I was, but who I am now is what will help me on this path I have finally decided to take on. The one path I was avoiding for a few years now actually...

I have so much to learn, but that's okay since I'm actually willing.

So 2011, I guess I've been waiting for you the most.

Wish you all a Happy New Year!

A Story to Tell

On December 13, a pup of five months was going to get killed because it had been in the shelter for three months already, and that particular shelter tends to be overcrowded since not many people visit it.

But a miracle happened.

On December 11 my parents had this urged to get a dog, and so they started to Google dogs for adoptions. Because they have had dogs before, and because they love dogs, they had decided to adopt a shelter dog, and well, on one of the craigslist ads they stumbled on was this one five month pup that had a very short amount of time to live. This got their attention, why?  I'm not certain, but that's how it went down, and so on the 12, they had decided to go see it. The one thing my siblings and I told them was that if this particular pup was for them, then it would have some of the traits our previous dogs had.

Well so we hoped...

From what my sister told me, when the pup first saw them she was scared, in fact she had pee. That's how afraid of people the pup was. The worker of the shelter that was taking care of the pup, as my parents and sister saw it, said that this pup had such a terrible life before coming to the shelter. I mean, the poor pup didn't even know what wagging a tail was, but my sister, when she got closer to the pup and looked in its eyes, she saw this ball of energy waiting to come out-- waiting for the right individual(s) to open the door to its true persona.

Well, my parents got touched by this pup's story, and so it was adopted, but they weren't able to take the pup home because the pup had to get spay/neuter.

On December 13, the pup had finally come home. When I first saw the pup my heart ached, it was small, scared, skinny, and didn't have that curiosity that most pups have at five months (believe me, I should know!) but I also understood it was because of this pup's previous history.

This pup was broken and needed lots of love and patience.

We all understood that.

Anyways to make this short, almost two weeks later we now have a healthy five month female puppy name Lulu the Terrible a.k.a Jaws. She is half Pitbull and half German Shepherd.

She is a ball of energy that because of teething, bites everyone and everything! And is always running around, wagging her tail nonstop, and crawling around. She acts as if all that terrible things that had happened not so long ago are just a mere thing from the past.

So on behalf of Lulu and my family, I wish you all a Merry Christmas

And this story here is what inspired my mini comic for my Wednesday course. Now I want to speak to my instructor and hope to have the chance of selling this short comic and have all profits send to the shelter... it's a thought for now ^_^

and yes, she is wearing a turtleneck because its just been so chilly this past few days :'D.

What I Went Through This Month

Dear All,

All I can say is that this month has been a wild ride. There was a lot of research, which did get frustrating at one point, and there was also finding an interviewee... boy did that keep me on my toes!

But worst of all...

I was struggling with my story paradigm. The first time I turned it in this month, my instructor said there were a few lose ends, so of course that meant redoing it... worst of all, my pitch and outline were due around the corner... so the pressure was on.

My story paradigm had to match my outline and logline, but you know what the best part was?

my pitch had to reflect it all!!

worst part is, it wasn't and so of course I was freaking out! and so I rewrote my story paradigm and I sent it to my instructor and it still wasn't working!

Gah! I wanted the earth to open up and swallow me whole!!! Tuzki Bunny Emoticon

I was frustrated and started to think that maybe this wasn't for me...
... yes, I began to doubt myself, but I kept on going.

Over the weekend, after I read my instructor's additional feedback, I went back to work and worked I did... I didn't come out of my bedroom unless I had to eat... and I had a big mess and I didn't care. In fact I lost my phone somewhere in the chaos...

For the first time I felt like a writer and believe me, I felt like I finally got it... I finally understood their world.  My life this weekend was in peril Tuzki Bunny Emoticon

Maybe I'm overreacting but that's just how I felt it... and then when I had to record my pitch, everything was going wrong... I was close to tears and then my file was large and wouldn't upload... yeah... I was loosing it!!!

But I made it in time... Thank God! but now I wait...

You see, every pitch will be review by the department, and they will determine if your story is accepted or if it will be fixing or worst of all... redoing everything!

Believe me, I'm anxious... very anxious!

It's like when the writer sends their novel out for approval and they are now waiting and all these ideas come and torture them because they begin to doubt their talents...

GAH!!! It's scary Tuzki Bunny Emoticon

But whether I receive good or bad news there is one thing that I must keep remembering... If I love to write then I must not quit but continue...

If you stumble, get up for it just makes you stronger...

Dear writers,

don't give up no matter how grim your future looks... if you love to write then this little obstacle should only reflect the passion you have for this art...

What a Class

This research course has been a tough one Tuzki Bunny Emoticon.

I know it's not about the grades, but about learning from it, and believe me, I've made so many mistakes that I know I have learn from it!

I just keep telling myself that I need to work harder...

This is my last week in the class, so we are getting ready to interview and pitch our story. Meaning, I so have to know my story. I've been working on it and I have revised my main character's backstory like three times already (I know to some writers three times is nothing :laughs: ). So far so good. So it's getting there ^_^.

I am also preparing the synopsis for my comic class :D. I have a good idea and I will talk about it another day. Today, I have to go and finish some more work.

For all beginner writers, like me :'), keep working hard and don't give up.  In the end, is all about self satisfaction.

Till next time.

Happy writing,

Eva

Research Reports are no Fun

Nothing exciting has happened recently. It's just been a very, eh, class really... Tuzki Bunny Emoticon

This is the second research report I've done within the past two weeks, and it just keeps on coming. I know I will benefit from research and in fact, I have. For example, one thing that had completely slipped my mind were hobbies. I thought I had quite a few, but I didn't think about whether she likes museums or hiking, you know, basic information. But I have learned that basic information is what would make my story credible. :sighs: it's been an off week for me.

But in Other News

My comic class is great! Our instructor just went over the storytelling structure, which I already know, so it was just fun to hear his perspective. He does want us to create a synopsis about our short story by next Wednesday, so I have been thinking about what to base my story on.

Now, because writers and artists are taking the class together, the short story limit is different, so since I can't draw (even if my life depended on it!) I need to make a 14 page comic script.

This, my dear readers, will be interesting. Especially since I have to juggle school, work, and now these mini-sessions. But I want to learn, so I can't complain!

Till next time.

Happy Writing,

Eva

What I'll Be Doing Every Wednesday Night

So as I mentioned in my last post, I did something last Wednesday night. And no, it wasn't bad or naughty :laughs:

As many of you know, I want to one day write and hopefully publish a comic :) and I accidentally stumbled upon this one comic store in Hollywood named Meltdown Comics. You should check their site.

Anyways! They have, what they named, Meltdown University, and they offer drawing and writing course for those interested in the comic industry. Yup! They do! So of course I was interested!

Yes, I have to pay a fee every Wednesday, but I think that in the long run, it will be worth it.

RunDown

Basically, by the end of the mini-session, we should have created a short comic. No, it won't be published, but it will give me a better understanding on comics as a whole, and THAT is worth a lot more. I want to understand the world of comics, and be able to know what exactly it is that I need, to AT LEAST have a chance out there. He will also talk about how to find an illustrator who would be willing to work with us :) so I'm looking forward to that.

But seriously, last Wednesday was hilarious because at first it was two guys and myself. So I know they felt rather awkward :laughs:  I was feeling out of place too, but later on, another lady joined, so that was pretty cool.

A lot more women should check out comics and video games though...

And! AND!

There was this tall, dark, and handsome man, who is a professional illustrator, and a frequent customer of that store and...

Whoah!

Back to business shall we? Tuzki Bunny Emoticon

We didn't do much last Wednesday, so I don't want to bored my dear readers with nonsense, but the instructor made us purchased a comic that we will be studying for storytelling purposes. Here, have a look:
This here is a French comic by Jacques Tardi
Have you seen so much dialogue before???

So from what he told us, comics in France (or was it Europe in general?) are very different then American comics. Not only are the comics hardcover, but dialogue tends to be lengthier don't you agree?

I'm really looking forward to every Wednesday from now on, and I hope to share it with all of you :).

So till next time,

Happy Writing!

Eva

To Become Authority One Must Do Research

First of all, I want to say I'm sorry for not posting anything the entire week. A FULL WEEK! It's just that I was busy with quite a few things that were out of my reach. You know how that is, right? But now, I'm back. :)

So this entire week, all we have been focusing on is research and of course finding an interviewee. Seriously, I thought, finding someone to interview wasn't going to be difficult, but as always... I was wrong!

So I've been trying to get a hold of a few YouTube Gurus (a very important part of my story is base on it), but :sighs: for some reason, I still haven't heard from at least one. I'm not asking for a two-hour interview, just thirty minutes tops. Tuzki Bunny Emoticon

Now this assignment is due tomorrow. Not the interview, just the confirmation of actually having someone to interview. So yeah, I was stressing. Believe me, I tried emailing and even used Twitter :laughs: Now, I understand that they might be busy, or maybe they just don't check their emails frequently. I don't want to assume that they were just ignoring my email because I don't know them in a personal level.

So what did I do?

I emailed my instructor and asked her if I could switch my subject for the interviewing phase. She is very understanding, and I was able to do that. So yay!Tuzki Bunny Emoticon

I'm interviewing a fellow classmate who has worked as a waitress <-----all this is for my story!

I finished typing my research paper that's due in a few hours and all I need is to revise it. Believe me... it needs it!

I'm going to cut this short for tonight, but I will blog tomorrow about something I did this past week. I find it pretty cool :).

Hope you all have had a wonderful weekend.

Till next time,

Eva

P.S.
Just because I wasn't able to reach one of them for an interview doesn't mean I will give up though :smirks:

Happy Belated Thanksgiving and a Long Post on Books

:waves: Hi everyone!

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving break. I know I did! :grins:

I actually decided to just take it easy the past few days. All my deadlines for this week were moved to next Wednesday, but of course, I was diligent and did all my work.

I CAN'T get behind.

Although today, I went back to work-mode. One of my assignments was regarding dialogue.

Basically, I had to spend at least an hour in a particular place and listen to people's conversation. If a dialogue caught my attention I needed to write it down. Now, I needed five of those, and well, we as human do have short attention span, so I found my own way of sustaining those dialogues. Tuzki Bunny Emoticon

It was interesting and I am considering on doing this again. As a writer (and this goes especially for those trying to become writers themselves), one NEEDS to pay close attention to the way people communicate with each other. Not everyone will speak the same, there are times when the environment determines the type of dialogue.

For example:

If you are the type of person who hasn't stepped into an Arts and Crafts store, by all means, go. Walk around for at least 30 minutes and just listen and observe. For many, this might sound like if we are stalking...but seriously... we are not. This, my fellow writer, will prep you for what is to come. It is after all, research, and every writer does this. I'm not kidding.

So make sure you do your research.

On A Side Note

Yesterday I received:

I haven't read DeathNote or PandoraHearts v.2 but I so DID read My Girlfriend's a Geek.

Seriously my dearies! I recommend MGG if all you need is a good laugh.

So...what's the story about?

Glad you asked. Basically PENTABU is a guy blogger who wrote about his relationship with a geek...well I should say, a Fujoshi geek. And even though it is hiarious, there are times when his girlfriend gets me upset. I mean, yay! he accepted your hobby, but give the guy a break :shakes head:

Oh well, who am I to judge.

But for YOU to have a good laugh there are a few prerequisites:

  1. You are a fujoshi
  2. You know a fujoshi
  3. You know what fujoshi means
  4. You are/have dated a fujoshi
Do you meet any of them?

If you did... get the book!

If you didn't...yeah...don't bother... it won't make sense. But if you want to give it a try, by all means.

But I did warn you....

Now yesterday I was browsing around...searching for BN discount coupons and I found one my friends :'D. A 30% off coupon! 30%!!!!!!!

Anyways....

So what did I get... I got this!!

I did go on a book shopping spree didn't I? :sighs: oh well. As long as I have no regrets then its a-okay!

Till next time,

Eva

Change of Plans?!

:Sighs: Okay...so my story has just gone from a comic script to a might be movie script.

Flashback

After writing that great logline I was proud of, I started to become doubtful of my thesis.

Was this the right idea?

Does it make sense?

Is my story interesting enough?

Are my characters interesting at all?

These were the types of thoughts going through my mind.

There was something about my idea I didn't like. I have to admit, this particular idea was one I had written as a light-novel a few years ago. This is the one idea that made me want to make a comic. I guess, this is why I've been stubborn about it.

But I just didn't know what to do.

I soon started to create proper bios for my characters, and after I finished writing them, I just stared at the computer---dissatisfied.

All I thought about at night was my characters and the story. It was bugging me!

Then today my instructor emailed me and she asked if this was a feature film idea. I'm like huh? what!?

:pulls hair out: Was I suppose to think of a future film? Did I misread something!

UGH!

So I sat down again, stared at the screen again, went over some ideas again... till I finally called my instructor. Tuzki Bunny Emoticon

Present Time

I have decided to focus on this one script that can become a a movie for television. This is an idea I pulled out from another script I created in another class.

My protagonist is the same but different at the same time. Does it make sense?

Anyways,  I think I'm finally ready to start the research. :)

Now you might be wondering... Hey Eva, what about the comic idea?

Well in the similar words but not so similar words of one of my favorite manga characters, I shall answer, "I will write and read scripts for a living, but writing comics, is nothing but a hobby I enjoy and hope to make money out of it too."

Do you know where I got this from? Tuzki Bunny Emoticon

If you do please enlighten me in the most discreet way lol!

So I guess in other words....

:smiles: I will write a comic and my research will start in a few weeks... and believe me I AM determine about this, so please support me when that time comes to spread the word.

Well, that's all I have for tonight.

Have a good one everyone!

Till next time,

Eva

Just One of Those Days

So today I sent my professor the logline for thesis. It took me a few hours to work on it, but I finally wrote it down. It does look promising so :keeps finger cross:

Now, my problem is that as I was writing my character bios for this one story, I was thinking of another story I want to work on. Ya, it's a pain.

Thesis?

So basically at the moment, I'm considering my thesis to be a comic. So if any of my LJ friends are reading this...I might send an email and hope for somewhat of an interview. Of course I will explain why in the email so don't worry :).

So once the logline was submitted and everything else was finish, I decided to create three character bios...yeah, I just finished the last bio :laughs: and so far they look okay.

I just hope my characters come to life and tell a story of their own.

:sighs:

This class is pure research. I still have to think of a place I want to go to and observe. Ya...I shall stalk a few people in a few days. All for information and dialogue :D.

But...
I have no clue where to go though Tuzki Bunny Emoticon

And the research continues.

Hmm...now that I look back, this seems rather a boring post... Sorry ^^;;;

Guess, research is boring even when blogging about it.

Blah!

I hope to bring great stuff next time!

Till then,

Eva

Is This Hyperventilation I'm feeling?

You know...I knew...I JUST knew it!

Knew what?

Well, that the deeper I get into the program, the more stress, the more sleep deprive I would get...

.....I was hesitant

But I did it anyways......

I logged on to the portal and looked.

Because of the Thanksgiving weekend, our first week's assignments are due till December 1st. I should celebrate, no?

:face palm: I have so much work to do! And, and...

I need to send my professor a LOGLINE!Tuzki Bunny Emoticon

You guys know how much I've come to hate loglines, but she wants to know what our "thesis" will be and since the interview is this month.  (I have no idea how the interview will be done...all I know is that it is through a video.)  I need to prepare.

Plus, I have to start on my research. You know...go here and there. Do this and that <----- I still don't know what it is I have to do :laughs:

Anyhoo...

This will be an interesting month my friends....and to top it all off, some of my fellow peers have started to drop. Yeah, this is hardcore...

But I will fight and continue! So wish me luck!Tuzki Bunny Emoticon

From MTG to Literary Research

And the transition begins!

I finally submitted the rewrite to my comic scene earlier tonight. Meaning, my Multimedia Terms and Genres course has officially ended!!Tuzki Bunny Emoticon

But that just means that...Literary Research is about to begin.... well, Monday that is. I'm excited since what I'm about to learn will help me create the foundation to a strong story. I already received an email from my next professor and even though I haven't read it thoroughly, I believe she wants us to tell her what it is we will focus for thesis. ALREADY!

:sighs: There is no rest... is there?

I received my books for this class though :D

I SHOULD read...

.......Nah!

I think I could wait for Monday or late Sunday to begin :laughs:

Well that's all I have for tonight everyone. I also want to thank everyone that has visited...once...twice...thrice...thank you! ^_^

Till next time,

Who Would've Thought!

As I mentioned previously (last post actually lol) we were all placed in three different groups to critique each others work, but with the luck I tend to have at times, I got placed in a group that has not, and I mean NOT picked up a comic before.

How Did I Find Out?

After we read all the scenes sent to us by all the group members we had to post our thoughts, suggestions, etc, on the Discussion Board. Now, my group was made of four ladies, myself included, and two guys. One didn't send his scene, the other hasn't read a comic, THAT was a shocker! I mean, how many guys don't pick up a comic, at least once?

But what sort of hit was the reality that here in the U.S not many women read comics and if a woman writes a comic scene, guys will really somehow dislike it (well, not all guys). That's something to keep in mind :).

Moving on...

But the downfall was that since no one in my group has read comics, all suggestions, were good, but there was something missing...

The opinion of someone who has actually read a comic. That was disappointing.

Now the good news is that I have a few friends, who HAVE read comics and mangas, so I sent them my scene for feedback purposes instead.

I need to revise my scene before the weekend is over for submission.

Slow Start Among Other Things

Believe it or not, today was an actual slow day...weird.

Did all my reading and I'm just waiting for the rest of my team to send me one of their scenes to get critique by me.

One of the Assignments

Basically our professor split us all into 3 groups. I'm in a class of 18 students :laughs: I SO didn't know this. Anyhoo...we all had to submit one of the scenes to get critique by each and everyone in your team.

Critique is good, remember that.

Now the deadline to send the scene to everyone in your team was 11pm EST. Have I received all the scenes? Have I? Nope!
Yes, things happen but deadlines are deadlines and if you are going to work for the entertainment industry then YOU must be punctual my friend. UGH! some people.Tuzki Bunny Emoticon

Moving Along....

Have any of you read Understanding Comics? Whether you want to make your own comics or just want to understand comics because you appreciate them, this is a great book. I recommend it :). I'm reading this at the moment, when time permits, and believe you me(yes, I intentionally wrote it like that lol)... it makes you look at comics differently. The best part? The book is a comic of it's own, making it entertaining and informative at the same time. Best combination ever! I bought it at BN for around $17 or so, but I'm sure if you look around you might find it for less. Seriously. Check it out.

Illustrator

Okay, since I can't draw I am thinking of searching for either a freelance illustrator or an art student to work on a project with me. It's not a right away project, but a it-will-definitely-happen within the next few months; after I clean it up a bit of course. Pay? Hmm...I might be able, but it's like low budget because it will be very short and it's for a personal and portfolio reasons :). Other option is credit and IF and maybe IF possible and everything works out and I know its probable then hopefully working on it as a real project later on, but I can't make any promises.

I guess this would be one of those "Hey! this can work out for both of us in the future!" type of thing. So for now, if you are a student and are trying to get something under your belt or a freelancer who would like to try a project, then definitely keep checking back.

I am also thinking of checking artists in DA. Hey, I've seen some of those works. AMAZING!

Unfortunately at the moment I can't really get into detail, like I said, I'm still working on it, but it's going to be kind of dark?

Well...that's all I have for today.

Till next time,

Eva

Comic Scene...check!

It took me the entire day to write six pages but I finally finished the scene :'). Now imagine, if it takes me a day to write six pages, how many days does it take a professional? Yeah, I started to wonder that earlier....

:crosses fingers: Well, I hope I do okay, at least that!

Here is a glimpse of my scene :).

One thing is for sure...this was hard to do!

Well, I know it's short and probably bland...but that's all I had for tonight. Tuzki Bunny Emoticon.

Now before, I really, TRULLY, say bye...

Have any of you read Pandora's Heart v.1?

I finally finished it. The reason I got it was because I've heard from quite a few that it's really good and you know what? It's just amazing! I can't wait to get v.2! ^_^

Now I will say...

Till next time,

I'm Alive!

Well....just barely... Now, as you might realize by now, I am a fan of emoticons since well, you can't see my expressions (or can you?)..... and at the moment, if an emoticons would have to say it all it would be:
 (X___X)

Yup! I'm exhausted! I have no idea why. I'm brain dead among other things....And to top it all, I received my animation scene back....

I'VE NEVER SEEN SO MUCH RED BEFORE!! Tuzki Bunny Emoticon

I must admit, I was a bit disappointed but at the same time, I had to keep reminding myself how I'm not going to get everything perfect right away. This is a new media for me. I've never written anything in a script format...so that's just something I have to keep in mind. I can't feel down or upset... okay, I'm lying...it CAN get me upset AND down....but all I can do is just keep on trying my very best and I WILL.

My comic scene is due this Sunday...and it took me two days--three tops to finish my backstories. I have no idea why it took so long, but they are finish. I'm proud of the character backstories. Now if you wanted to see it, well...I can't show it just now. I don't think any of you would be able to follow :laughs: Not that it's bad of course....

It's complicated?

Moving on.....

I can't draw.

So how am I suppose to visualize my scenes for each panel? Well, I tried using a blank piece of paper....didn't work. I also tried using Manga Studio Deluxe who was I kidding! Last resort...Flashcards!
:hugs flashcards: they are my friends. :'D .

I wrote five panels or less for each page in flashcards that I will transfer to a script tomorrow.

I also used  one of my mangas as a resource for two of my panels. I hope I do better this time around :crosses fingers:

Any of you read this before?
So yes, I suppose I have been busy...and will continue to do so :sighs:

But what can I do?

Well, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Till next time,

Eva

The Beginning...

Today my brain went into overload. EXTREME overload. There is just so much information regarding comics and video games, that it's just wow...

Writing for video games is highly unlikely for me, unless of course I had a background in game design, since to most, these two fit in the same category. I don't know game design, so getting a job is...well you get the point. I'm still considering editing though. I can do that :).

Since my scene is going to be on comics, I decided to print these:

Hmmm...it's not much but believe me, there is a difference between DC script style and Marvel script style (the two styles giving as example in the book but not THE only ones...). I have to read through them and study them, so far, I think I'll be inclining towards DC for now.

I hope to come up with my own style sometime soon :).

I must confess, writing whether for t.v, animation, comics, and video games, is becoming overwhelming... but in the long run, it will be worth it!

Now the funny thing was that after reading, reading, reading.... I had to take a break. I just had to! So what was I to do?

Well, I've been eyeing my Sailor Moon collection, so I watched the first episode...It's been ages :laughs: then I decided to watch the first episode of Mobile Suit Gundam :). Brings back memories....

...back to business....

After my very long break... I sat down and began to write one out of three backstories I am working on. I'm not turning them in, but I have come to see just how important it is to have backstories for all characters. I wanted to write Mira's backstory, but as I began to type, nothing came out. I'm just really, really sleepy.

:crosses fingers: let's hope tomorrow is better and I'll be able to finish those backstories. As long as I finish them all before Thursday I'll be good.

So now...if only I can be directed to where a thing call bed is....

A Hint of What is to Come

Today I felt that the day took longer to come to a close. Weird.... I actually had a relaxing day in the morning because I knew... I so knew I was going to be busy later on...and I was...

This week we will either choose to write a scene for comics or video games. I love both. I like to play RPG games mostly, especially because of the storyline.

A great storyline = A great game.

But the only problem is that I can't come up with games of my own. :sighs in disappointment: Isn't that sad? I figure if I ever do enter the world of games, then editing and assisting are the jobs for me!

So yup! You guessed it!

I will be making a comic scene. It will have to be no more than 6 pages, one page more than what I had for animation :D. Happy joy!

This brings me to what I did today....

I began to research names for my characters...now keep in mind, I've had this story circling around, tugging my sleeve for what seems forever! But for some reason, I have stalled...and stalled and stalled. Reason: No good name ever came.

What was I expecting? For them to POOF out of nowhere for me....seriously.

Anyways,

I now officially have names and last names, and I have to thank a friend for helping me out. She sort of helped me get on the right path, so thank-you :)

So am I excited about this week?

You bet!

Am I going to be sleep deprived?

I can't quite remember what sleep is to begin with :')

Oh....want to know the best part?

Do you....

.....Are you sure?

Okay, I'll tell you...

I just found out that next month I have to submit a video, pitching the two ideas I am going to consider for my thesis. In the end, out of the two, I will choose one.

Now as I read this so-called Important Note, I only had one reaction, and one reaction only.

Teaser....What?

FADE IN:

This week was a whole new experience for me. I was introduced to writing scripts for animation and became aware of just how much details go to it. One thing is certain, writing for animation is not easy. As a writer, you have to call all the shots.

For example:

ANGLE ON<---- what do you want the illustrator to focus on, a specific expression or person.

FAVORING<----if there is a group and you want to focus a specific character for a shot, use this.

CLOSE-UP ON<--- like making the camera zoom in on someone or something

SFX<---Is there any sound effects you must state the type.

But most importantly dialogue. Because in animation, voice actors also help bring to life your character (the voice providers), you need to add everything that involves a laugh, a snort, chuckle, etc as part of dialogue.

These terms aren't even half of what animation involves but believe me, the fact that as a writer you need to be able to include all actions and shots for the storyboard artist to see, it's stressful, and I admire all those that deal with this....

I don't think I ever thought of just how much work really goes into animation, and now I have a different perspective about it.

And because I do, I really want to learn the trait.

Now about my scene...

Today (or is it better to say yesterday?) afternoon, I reread and proofread my scene. And you know what? I now believe that this particular story would be better as a manga.

I would like to write one....

In fact, I'm actually considering on focusing my thesis on the graphic novel option, but :sighs: I'm still thinking about it.

It would be awesome and scary at the same time...I mean if I do focus on graphic novels, then I would need to hire someone that would be willing to be my illustrator since I truly would like to do that.... and since I can't draw...even if my life depending on it...well you get the point.

Now about tomorrow,  I start a new assignment and I am rather excited :)

Here is a sneak peek of what I worked on. I know I have a lot of work to do, if I ever want to become a professional, but I believe I'm getting there...

Oh and those loglines...yes, they are there...following me wherever I go. Frankly I don't think I'll ever get rid of them Tuzki Bunny Emoticon.

So there is only one thing to do....observe and practice!

Well, I do hope you found writing for animation somewhat interested....and if you didn't then I'm sorry...I guess, I didn't do a good job describing it.

Till next time,

Eva

Teaser, Fade in, Fade out, End teaser are involve in animation...I just wanted to included in this post :)

Darn Those Terms!

UGH! Loglines, how much more am I to take!

Tuzki Bunny Emoticon

So I've been thinking....(not sure if this is a good or bad thing.....) if I should post once a week or once a day...but I think I'll try posting every night before going to sleep--at least try!-- and write about what I did that day. Only if it was interesting....

No....I'm not talking about,  " Dear all, today I met so and so, and we had a blast! I then had lunch with A :D."

More along the lines of just describing anything that happened relating to my writing adventure that day and even post pics. And what better way then try storytelling it..since that's what I want to do right? errr...learn to do :laughs:

So moving along.....

Today after finally getting up from bed and drinking TONS and TONS of coffee.... Nah, after drinking two cups and doing my daily routine of chores and getting ready for the day, I sat on my desk and went over terminology. I'll be frank, learning new terms takes time and patience. It's just like everything else.

Anyhoo,

As I went over the terms, I was writing notes on what to look over when rereading my script later that day, while going over my flashcard information.
**I write during the night, since it's less busy and everyone goes to sleep. Perfect time to focus on writing without interruptions!

Believe me, I am trying, TRYING to be a good student. This class didn't start off so well for me. Well it's not bad either..I'm just trying to keep a very good GPA is all... but I am determine! I want to get writing for animation.

So I finished a little earlier today, since writing was flowing like water for me yesterday, and I was able to finish my scene.

What I Did Today:

  • Go over my scene
  • Switch a few actions around
  • Checked format
Now, my strategy is to not open my scene file at all tomorrow. Why you might ask? Well, by leaving it alone, I'll be able to have a fresh perspective on Saturday, when I proofread and see whether to add or delete additional stuff. But this doesn't mean, I have a free day tomorrow. Nope. No siree. I have a GLORIOUS date with loglines :D....and a few other analytical questions based on the animated show Home Movies. Any of you seen it before?

If you haven't you should....weird....<----wasn't a fan until now... Link

And to conclude....
......Ta Da!

The lovely notes from earlier today

:laughs:

Well, I leave you all with the link and picture from above.

Till next time,

Eva

Who Would Have Thought...

that writing a 5 page long scene was going to be harder then I had expected. To tell you all the truth, the 7 page script I turned in last month for my other class was easier.

Well not that easier...

Actually....no...nevermind..

...back to business.

One of the factors involved in writing for animation is that there are shots involved. Shots needs to be drawn, meaning I have to write who is facing where and what. One thing is for sure, writing for animation requires lots of details :orz:

One of the downfalls I have (well I suppose for now...) is that I can't draw, so writing for this genre will bring a challenge, but I guess I'm willing to try. Not the drawing part though :laughs: I'm just bad at it to begin with.

It's Thursday early morning and I finally finished writing my scene. But i'm not done yet...

Things To Do:

Edit
Rewrite
Check for style
Check for format

**Before dealing with the to do list I first have to reread terms and make sure I understand them and had them placed correctly Tuzki Bunny Emoticon.

But first, I need some sleep... so till next time.

Indeed an Interesting Week

So this week's assignments are finally available for viewing, and boy is it interesting :grins:
well....for me at least...

This week is all about animation and television and I not only need to watch an episode of X-Men Revolution, I'm reading the script for that specific episode. I'm rather delighted since I used to watched it in KidsWB :reminiscing: Oh, memories....

But what I am looking forward to the most is that I'll be able to choose between writing a small script for either animation or television and guess what I'm choosing :).

I know I'll probably be brain dead by the end of the week (something that is happening lately -.-) but it's all worth it. Not only am I writing, but I'm writing for what I enjoy, and to me, that's a big deal.

I hope to learn from this week and hopefully be able to start using it for my own story, since I need to start figuring out what exactly my thesis will concentrate on...oh boy....

Productive Today?

You bet! :).  I wrote my characters' backstories and believe me, I not only answer a questionnaire for all my characters (which is helpful!), I try to figure the month, the blood type, favorite color, etc for each and every one of them. Yeah, it is time consuming but it helps me understand them all.

I also read the script to Beauty and the Beast. One of my favorite movies :).

Well that's all I have for today, so hope you all have a wonderful week!

Should Games and Animation be Banned from Adults?

Earlier this week, I began to read one of my text books for this month's class, and when I read that there are people out there who would like to banned games, animation, and graphic novels from adults I was shocked!

My question was why?

Why can't adults have the right to have different hobbies, is it because we have to act "matured" and not let our imaginations take over?

Personally, I don't think that would be fair. It's just a part of me and the way I see it, not all animation and games are for kids. Maybe this is something that is not truly accepted in America (are there other countries out there with the same dilemma?), but c'mon, just because some of us like games, animations, and graphic novels, does not mean, we aren't adults. :shakes head in disappointment:

I could go on and on about this, but I won't. One thing I do know is that because of the field I'm trying to get into and because of my own graphic novel I'm trying to bring to life, I am thinking of joining and advocating for my rights. There is no way I will be banned from something I am enjoying or would like to share with others some day in the future. If I get more information on the subject I will definitely link you to it.

About School

Gaaahh!!!!!! Is all I can say....It was a busy, busy week for me. First I had to turned in 10 loglines and that was horrible! I so suck at it :|. But the good news is that our professor mentioned that some professionals out there write loglines for a living, so you know what that means for me! :laughs:

I also had to write a logline for my story, two synopsis (different genres), and a backstory.

It was hectic! but each and every day, I begin to learn and understand more and I love it. :)

Tip: If you are an aspiring writer I definitely suggest writing backstories for your protagonist. Believe me, it makes writing not only the story but the character a lot easier. Besides, knowing where your protagonist came from makes you see where he or she is going to.

Till next time~

Loglines and a Thing Called Reading

I started my new class this past Monday and I've been super busy since then. There are a few things I'm working on  that I never thought of before. I mean, I knew there were part of writing stories but I just never made it part of mines.

This week we started with Loglines. You know, those, one to two sentences stating what my story will be about. Here is an example. I must admit, loglines are hard to write! but the good thing was that most of my loglines came from stories I've been playing around with.

Something that helped me when writing the who does what and why? was placing them in 10 different index cards (since I needed 10 loglines).

What else.....

Oh yeah, I just became aware that the novel, My Girlfriend's a Geek just came out in English. I've been thinking of getting the manga but since the novel did come first I am aiming for that :).

I also began to read Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman and I must say, so far it's been hilarious! so it's worth checking out! Then again, I'm a big fan of his :laughs:

Well that's all I have for tonight.

Adios! :)

My First Post About School

No one ever said that writing was easy, or that becoming a creative writing student was easier. I've written fanfiction and prose but never in my entire life (so far), ever considered writing a screenplay. That's a whole new world for me. A whole new ballgame!

Did You Know?

  • That a screenplay has to be 120 pages.
  • That a page has to not look crowded.
  • That one has to be able to point out where plot point I and plot point II are.

There is so much that I'm learning that it becomes overwhelming.  I've made some mistakes already but who hasn't right?

What I Learned This Month:

I learned to write and realize the importance of a character full biography. Believe me, the more you get to know your main character, the more alive they become and the more they write the story and not you.

I also was sleep deprived :p. Not fun since I'm a morning person and that means heading to bed early. But no, not this month and I doubt that will happen for a very long time.

And hello :). If you've read this post then nice to meet you.  Monday I start my new class: Multimedia Terms and Genres. I'm excited! :)
